SHAMS Center condemns inflicting death sentence upon a woman by the Court of First Instance of Khan Younis

“SHAMS” Center convicts inflicting death by hanging upon the citizen (N/A) by the Court of First Instance of Khan Younis on Wednesday October 5th of 2016. Who is accused of intentional murder with malice aforethought which breaking the articles of the Palestinian Law. Moreover, Panel for Serious Crimes in the Court of First Instance of Khan Younis accused the woman (N/A) of killing her husband Rabi’ Abu Anza (36) years old. It should be noted that Abu Anza was found killed close to Atsmouna settlement to the south of Khan Younis on 30/1/2016.

“SHAMS” Center reminds that the time of the sentence issuance is inappropriate since the whole world is getting ready for celebrating the World Day against Death Penalty on October 10th annually. Such celebration symbolizes for the social, political and cultural development of other nations in addition to checking the disadvantages of death penalty which causes different states to either reducing the resort to this punishment, or abolition in regard to such crimes. Furthermore, death penalty indicates an infringement upon the human dignity, while protecting the dignity is regarded as the keystone in the reinforcement of humanity besides human rights and freedoms. Utilizing the capital punishment has indicated that it is being used inappropriately in addition to being inhuman, cruel and humiliating punishment since it violates the right to life.

“SHAMS” Center calls for respecting the approaches of the Palestinian leaders aiming to accede additional human rights treaties which guarantee the right to life.it also urges to the Palestinian National Authority PNA to immediately sign the Second Protocol Annexed to International Convenant on Political and Civil Rights for the abolition of death penalty. The center also calls the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas to employ his constitutional powers for the purpose of abolition of death penalty in the Palestinian legislations, and not to approve death sentences.
