“SHAMS” Center condemns the Israeli occupation for the tragic events that unfolded in Al-Nusairat camp on Saturday the 8th of June, 2024. The incident has resulted in the loss of over (210) lives and left around (400) people injured. This condemnable act is seen as a direct challenge to the international community, reflecting the disarray, dispersion, and decline experienced by the Israeli occupation. It also signifies a mindset of vengeance and brutality. Following the United Nations’ decision to blacklist the occupation army for its role in child casualties, the occupation responded with this targeted massacre of innocent civilians, including women and children, in Al-Nusairat camp in the Gaza Strip.
“SHAMS” Center strongly asserts that the occupation persistently refuses to be listed in the hall of shame, the blacklist of countries and organizations that harm children. This is exactly where this occupation belongs, alongside ISIS and other terrorist groups that target children and commit atrocities against innocent civilians in their homes and camps, disregarding any humanitarian, ethical, or legal principles. The deliberate killings, destruction, and systematic terrorism carried out by this occupier daily against the Palestinian people are in plain sight and within earshot of the whole world, which remains eerily silent and inactive.
“SHAMS” Center asserts that Palestinian blood is not subject to internal Israeli negotiations. Amid the internal crisis rocking the occupation government, it is striving to preserve its unity and coherence at the cost of Palestinian lives, committing further atrocities to avert its collapse and fragmentation. Following a declaration by Benny Gantz, a member of the War Council in the occupation government, about his intention to withdraw from the war government, the Israeli occupation army committed this atrocious act under a political decision to maintain the government’s unity and cohesion, disregarding the blood of innocent children and women in the Nuseirat camp.
“SHAMS” Center strongly criticizes the international stance that supports the occupation, particularly the American and British positions. These countries provide political and legal protection for the occupation on a global scale, effectively granting immunity to powerful entities from international criminal justice. This ongoing impunity enables the Israeli occupation to persist in committing atrocities against the Palestinian people, exposing the double standards of Europe and the United States in dealing with human rights issues.
While these nations denounce human rights violations in Ukraine and other regions, they remain conspicuously silent about the crimes perpetrated by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian population. Their inaction undermines any trust in the professed values of freedom, democracy, and human rights upheld by these countries and international institutions.
“SHAMS” Center is questioning how many innocent civilian victims must perish before the global conscience awakens from its deep slumber and speaks out against the massacres committed by the occupation against the Palestinian people. The most recent atrocity being the Al-Nusairat massacre. Despite the horrifying nature of these events, the leaders and heads of state around the world have remained unmoved. What are they waiting for to take a stand against the serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territories?
Bottom of Form
“SHAMS” Center center asserts that the Israeli occupation government’s actions of massacring, killing, and targeting civilians constitute a grave violation of international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention of 12/8/1949. This convention provides special protection for civilians, especially under Article 15, which emphasizes the protection of non-combatants during their presence in conflict zones.
Furthermore, these actions also breach the Hague Convention on the Laws and Customs of War on Land of 1907, particularly Article 27, which mandates the safeguarding of buildings dedicated to worship, arts, sciences, charity, and historical monuments during sieges or bombardments. Additionally, the violation extends to the Rome Statute of 1998, as Article 8 deems intentional attacks on religious, educational, artistic, scientific, or charitable buildings, historical monuments, hospitals, and places where the sick and wounded are gathered as war crimes.
In its press release, “SHAMS” Center calls on the International Security Council, the United Nations General Assembly, the signatory parties to the Geneva Conventions, the United States, the European Union, the UN Secretary-General, the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, the World Health Organization, governmental and non-governmental institutions to take urgent action to compel the occupying government to halt its daily crimes against the Palestinian people, particularly the acts of genocide and civilian killings. They also urge the International Security Council to issue a resolution under Chapter VII of the UN Charter to immediately stop the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.
