Comrade Saleh Raafat, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Secretary-General of the Palestinian Democratic Union (FIDA), stated the following: I express our rejection and condemnation of what was stated in the open letter sent by the Islamic Liberation Party to the Ma’an news network and the Ma’an satellite channel, and its accusation of disbelieving for those hosted by Satellite TV, especially Dr Omar Rahal, head of Human Rights and Democracy Media Center “SHAMS”. I also express my strong condemnation of what was reported on social media by leading figures in the Islamic Liberation Party and Salafi groups threatening Dr Omar Rahal with death because he defends the rights of Palestinian women, democracy and the rule of law. I call on the Public Prosecution and Palestinian security institutions to directly investigate the symbols of the Islamic Liberation Party and the Salafi groups that threatened to assassinate Dr Omar Rahal and who had previously threatened to kill women leaders.
I call on the Palestinian government to accelerate the harmonization of the draft Family Protection Law with what was stated in the Palestinian Declaration of Independence as well as international laws, especially CEDAW. I also demand the harmonization of all Palestinian laws with what was stated in the international laws and conventions to which the State of Palestine has joined and with what was stated in the Declaration of Independence in a manner that guarantees the rights of Palestinian women and their equality with men, and the building of the State of Palestine “A democratic parliamentary system based on freedom of opinion and freedom to form parties, as well as on “social justice, equality and non-discrimination in public rights on the basis of race, religion, colour, or between women and men, and in light of a constitution that guarantees the rule of law and the independent judiciary”
