Ramallah: the Human Rights and Democracy Media Center “SHAMS” followed the statement of the Palestinian Police Spokesman indicating the death of a detainee Ahmad Ramlawy (60) years old in Jericho Government Hospital with great concern, after being transferred to the hospital from the detention center of Jericho & the Jordan Valley Police on Tuesday December 3, 2019.
“SHAMS” center underlines the right of the prisoners in detention centers to obtaining full daily life requirements and decent living conditions in accordance with international law and the national & international human rights standards, especially after Palestine’s accession to diverse international conventions that urge so. And in accordance with the provisions of Reform and Rehabilitation Centres Act No. (6) Of 1998, particularly Chapter V which regulates health care and medical services’ provisions of the arrested and prisoners.
Accordingly, “SHAMS” center is calling for opening an immediate, transparent and prompt investigation about the death to identify its grounds, causes and circumstances and thus take necessary actions. Besides, informing the public about that under their right of access to information, and drawing lessons in order to prevent a recurrence of such situation in the future.
