On the occasion of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Universal Day for Human Rights Defenders
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights Concomitant With The Violation of Palestinian’s Human Rights
“SHAMS” center denotes that violation of Palestinians’ human rights started in the same year the Universal Declaration of human rights was announced by the United Nations. While the latter along with all nations celebrate the 70th anniversary of this declaration, Palestinians still suffer from the Israeli occupation with almost four million refugees dispersed worldwide. The Israeli authorities have all along violated international charters and conventions and ignored the rights of the Palestinian people.
The universal declaration of human rights is not only an achievement of all mankind and constitutes a turning point in international solidarity , but rather sustains the innate character of people and that human rights are indivisible and a legitimate right for all nations to have their sovereignty and to own their natural resources. Nevertheless, some countries still deny the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
“SHAMS” center affirms that the Israeli crimes, violations and atrocities constitute a systemic policy on the part of the Israelis and have not ceased since the Zionist bandits occupied Palestine in 1948. Such atrocities include killing Palestinians in cold blood, arresting and killing children, detaining corpses of martyrs, arresting thousands of people, impeding access to places of worship, demolishing houses, uprooting trees, confiscating land and property, expanding illegal settlement, isolating villages from one another because of the apartheid wall , erecting permanent and makeshift checkpoints, imposing blockade on the Gaza Strip, isolating Jerusalem from its Palestinian geographic contiguity, using internationally banned weapons, plundering Palestinian resources, violating the environment, beating up journalists, closing down and demolishing TV and Radio stations and attacking paramedics. With their atrocities and violation of human rights , the Israeli authorities along with their settlers still deprive Palestinians from accomplishing self-determination.
“SHAMS” center calls the Palestinian National Authority PNA for conducting a national evaluation for the status of human rights in Palestine, to figure out obstacles and challenges and to employ official mass media to disseminate the culture of human rights. In addition to significantly support the movement of defending human rights and to revise the applied Palestinian laws to accord with international related treaties and conventions, based on the principles of International Bill of Human Rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights has been the inspiration and motivation of the ideas and activities related to human rights everywhere, and it has become a source from which human rights’ conventions and treaties are derived, to represent mutual aspirations among nations.
“SHAMS” center believes that work conditions for human rights defenders all over the world including Palestine and non-governmental organizations are marked by difficulty. They are exposed to threats, violations, mobbing and public assault on their reputation and personal safety, in attempts to restrict and hinder their work and affect their credibility. Despite the fact that Human Rights Law has much developed in terms of the oversights’ mechanisms however, it hasn’t developed in regard to collaboration’s mechanisms since protecting human rights in an international responsibility.
